This weekend 2 & 3 September 2017 it was the annual Sesambos Open in Swartwater. This usually serves as a team building for the Mid-Am team and the Premier IPT team who already selected will be touring in September and October respectively.
The tournament had a slow start with Jannie Bronkhorst from Polokwane Golf Club leading after round 1 and Divan Geldenhuys from Mogol Golf Club lying 2nd. Divan is a junior who is showing a lot of promise for the future and the Limpopo Golf Union says they are very excited about him. In the hunt was also Tristen Schwim and Neil Rathmann from Polokwane Golf Club.
Round 2 is where it got interesting as Jannie looked like he was running away with the Sesambos Open 2017 after 27 holes. But defending Champion Neil Rathmann would not give up without a fight. Neil on round 2 made birdies on the 12th, 13th and 14th but Jannie Bronkhorst hit back with a chip-in eagle of his own on the 14th. This should have discouraged Neil but he stepped up and made another birdie on the 15th to stay 2 behind. But it looks like the quadruple bogey earlier in the round will come back to haunt Neil as it struggled to catch Jannie and Jannie does not make mistakes unnecessarily.
Jannie Bronkhorst fought everyone off in the first play-off event of the Toshiba Cup worth double points to stay on the top of the Toshiba Cup Standings with 3975 points and Neil Rathman moved in to second place with 2520 points.
This year 2017 is becoming a close race again with Jannie Bronkhorst already pulling out of Koro Creek Open which will be worth 3 times the value.
Supporters should hold on this is going to be a big race
